Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra

Our Secretary, Jill Martin writes:

Come on babe, why don’t we paint the town?  And all that jazz.  You don’t have to rouge your knees or roll your stockings down but you are compelled to start the car for a whoopee spot where the Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra will be performing an exciting programme of big band classics, popular TV themes and rock instrumentals.

Since their inception they have received numerous Outstanding Performance awards at the National Festival of Music for Youth, the National Jazz Festival in Birmingham and the Great North Big Band Festival.  If you have young ones who are learning to sing, dance or play a musical instrument, consider bringing them along to be inspired.  With the swagger of teen spirit on their side, the group have been voted the BBC Radio Big Band of the Year.

Impressively they have performed a record 18 times at the Royal Albert Hall, at Buckingham Palace and the House of Commons to name but a few.  Following their powerful performance at the United Nations in New York, the UK Ambassador said, “If I could put this band in front of the Security Council of the UN, all their resolutions would be unanimous.”

The orchestra will be appearing for The Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire Concert Society on Friday 19th April. As a charity we are keen to give young musicians the opportunity to showcase their talents.  Nothing makes sound come to life more than seeing real live players.  It’s going to be jangling and jiving with jazz hands so book your places now.
